Selkirk Lodge February 12th to 19th, 2011
This week started with a Big Dump. I was in Canmore on Friday looking at weather forecast and decided I had better get to Revelstoke before Rogers Pass got shut down for avalanche control. The drive over was slow and it was dumping the whole way. When I got to Revy it took me half an hour to find my friend's house because the town is so buried.
On Saturday morning I went to RMR for some powder and chowder snowboarding. We had some bad news, the Canmore folks who stayed in Canmore were stuck in Golden and the Pass wouldn't open until 6pm. The rest of us flew into Selkirk on schedule.
We started the trip with poor stability and about 60cm of storm snow. We played in the trees all day, keeping away from any big slopes. It kept snowing until Wednesday and on Tuesday we got a good period of blue bird. Stability improved through the week and we migrated from the trees to the alpine. The snow has been phenomenal. In McDougall Creek yesterday there was about 140cm of storm snow and ski penetration up to 60cm. Face shot alpine skiing. Marco took the group up Holy Doodle and down Beyond, which hasn't been done very often. Everything is well filled in, its the season to get some good skiing done.
We have one more blue bird morning left to ski. Looking forward to another classic Selkirk Lodge alpine line.
Thanks for a fantastic week Grania - it was a good one!
